Temple Activist TR Ramesh has called for a congregation of Devotees at the Kapali Temple on Wednesday evening at 6pm as part of the 'Own Your Temple' initiative
"Its time to go beyond Voice (Noise) and Reclaim the Temple from the HR & CE"
Photo taken by this writer at the Kapali TempleOne has heard of hostile takeovers in the corporate world. In fact there is one happening currently. There have also been cases including in the recent past of the HR & CE taking over private temples. This one is dramatic and possibly a first of its kind attempt in the temple world.
Temple activist and President of the Temple Worshippers Society TR Ramesh has called for a congregation of devotees at the Kapaleeswarar temple this Wednesday evening at 6pm as part of his ‘Own your Temple’ initiative. Ramesh has for long been a vocal advocate of temples being in the hands of Devotees/Trustees/Mutts and has been vehement in his comments on taking away the power from the HR & CE.
In his tweet, he says that beyond voicing for FREE Temples, lets move to Own Your Temple. He has asked for all temple loving Dharmics in the city to be part of the event and to reclaim 'our temples' from Govt.
In fact on several occasions in the last five years, he has told this writer quoting various sections in the HR & CE act and historical Court judgments that the HR & CE does not have a place in temples.
EOs role at Kapali Temple
He has repeatedly questioned the locus standi of EOs in temples. Specifically relating to the Kapaleeswarar temple in Mylapore, Ramesh has spoken to this writer on many occasions about the EO not having any role in the temple based on specific sections in the act. It was also Ramesh who insisted on the Trustees, Poonamallee Uyar Thuluva Vellalar Marabinar Sangam (https://prtraveller.blogspot.com/2020/12/kapaleeswarar-temple-vellala-community.html) getting their due rights on the Board, one that had been taken away about four decades ago.
From Voice and Noise to action on the ground
Thus far these had been in the form of petitions, tweets and stories on this blog. Now Ramesh is going in for the kill!!! On the auspicious occasion of Vinayaka Chathurthi (August 31) and as part of the ‘Own Your Temple’ initiative (people managing the temple), he is looking to take over charge of the temple away from the hands of the HR & CE and the EO.
For long, Ramesh has maintained that the HR & CE has no role in the temple affairs except when there is a case of mismanagement and even then to only a limited extent. The Board of Trustees is the one that has to have complete control of the management of the temple. In the High Court order last week, the view that he has held for many years was endorsed with the direction that the HR & CE has no right over the appointment of service personnel in agamic temples and that the trustees are the ones entrusted with those powers.
While this 'on the ground' launch of the ‘Own Your Temple’ initiative will take place in the heart of Madras and in one of the six richest temples in TN, Ramesh says that this is only the first of many such temples they are looking at. Another prominent temple in the city is next in line following the one at the Kapaleeswarar Temple.
It would be interesting to see as to how many devotees take part on this on Wednesday evening and the reaction of the HR & CE.

Hindus need to support this clarion call of TRR by assembling in big numbers. We should gave a strong conviction that Lord Kabaleeshwarar will support his devotees.
Let's congregate in big numbers at the temple on Wednesday, bon the auspicious day of Ganesha Chathurthi.
Yes we will support Temple activist TR Ramesh for taking over Kabaleeswar temple by devotees society rather than by EO of Govt.
Very good initiative. But at least now, all Hindus should respond and show our strength
Correct move. There is always a beginning to u do the harms done by HR&CE and the திராவி/ திராவிஷ அரசு
HR&CE won;t like it jii
but the finer point is when are these so called traditinal trustees going to get control of the assets/properties, only then, things will be different

Out support is there. Though we do not live in Mylapore now, our heart is there. I am born and grownup in Mylapore. My Grandfather stayed in North Mada stree all through his life. Everytime I visit Mylapore i make sure to visit great Kapaleshwar temple. Temple need to be taken over by devotees.
Wish this Great movement a Grand success. 🙏🙏
Good initiative! Have the clear structured org with Governance to drive the initiative….This has to be supported by all those who believe in God and Temple worship. Just emotional fight is not enough , we need to get a proper legal route…if not we will become an object of ridicule in hands of Govt . But this can first step and my prayers that it must become a mass movement! All the best to all of us !!!
Nice move sir . Go ahead we are supporting you. This gives a strong bond we have in our culture and towards society

Excellent news on this auspicious day. Let us bring back all the 40000 temples from this atheist group under TRR leadership. Why people are posting their views under ananymous names. First and foremost we should come out from this and boldly stand together for achieving or genuine goal. Atleast after this let everyone expose their names.
No doubt. Also we should take over all the temples

Yes right move at the right time. HREC is a good for nothing body that doesn't make.any attended/attempt to Maintain &. Safeguard temples. In other way it works and keen on swindle the belongings of temple. Very very shameful...
Fully support the decision
Fully support the decision
This is a very good move
We should give our Hands.
We are all with you sir, good step you have initiated.🙏🏻🌸
Welcome sir
Welcome sir
Very happy to know. This move was very delayed one. Long back HR & CE had looted many famous temples. I salute the current move.
Why not ?When Santana Dharma,Dharma of this great country from time immemorial, is considered equal to religions which have crushed our Dhrma and were uprssed class for about 1000 years should have been given special status ,as given to Scs&Sts.On the other hand Govts have taken over all revenue generatig temples and diverting the funds with least benifit to temple development or to the benfit of Santana Dharma or its followers, despite the revenue is contributed by us.I fully support Sri Ramesh.
Why are we Anonymous. Learn from other religious communities, who don't even go back on beheading. This fugitive nature is pulling us down.Awake.Call a spade a spade ,boldly.
Great initiative sirji keep HR and CE out for ever. God bless you and give you strength and success
It’s the most stupid move
Have u all seen the temples in north which r not managed by governments all hindu temples r managed by holigans in the name of poojari
Try visiting Puri Jagan Nath or kolkatta Kali then you will know
But look at Thirumala or any major temples in Tamil Nadu
It’s all so neat , clean and when u go into those temples it’s all so well organised
It’s good that temples are all under the control of government for effective management
